Guy Bedouelle literary award ceremony for Antoine Choplin

The Université catholique de l'Ouest is pleased to invite you to the Guy Bedouelle literary prize-giving ceremony, in the presence of winner Antoine Choplin, for his novel La Barque de Masao.

The ceremony will take place on Wednesday October 15 at 6pm in the Bazin amphitheater, and will be followed by a drink and book signing in partnership with the Lhériau bookshop.

The Guy Bedouelle Literary Prize, organized by the Cultural Affairs Delegation, rewards a literary work that creates a dialogue between the arts while questioning their relationship with the sacred. For this fifth edition, the jury awarded the prize to Antoine Choplin for his book La Barque de Masao (Éd. Buchet-Chastel, 2024).

La Barque de Masao tells the story of a Japanese worker who is reunited with his daughter after years of separation: mutual recognition gradually takes place. Between a troubled past and a still fragile present, a story unfolds whose nobility cannot fail to move the reader. Set on a Japanese island, the plot explores architecture, poetry, and the work of the craftsman. The sober writing magnifies the silences and creates space for forgiveness and healing.
