As part of its 150th anniversary celebrations, l'Université catholique de l'Ouest is pleased to invite you to a Franco-Vietnamese symposium, on November 24, 2025, in Angers, to honor the figure of Father Théophane Bửu Dưỡng (1907-1987), a UCO alumnus and founder of Minh Duc University in Saigon.
This symposium, entitled "The meeting of peoples: fruitful tension and mutual gifts between the Christian faith and Vietnamese culture. The case of figures of connection: Théophane Bửu Dưỡng, Léopold Cadière, and Marcel Văn," will bring together French and Vietnamese speakers and offer a reflection on the mutual gifts between Christianity and Vietnamese culture, linking memory, mission, and the intersection of knowledge.
It will be followed by a cultural evening on the theme of “plural Vietnamese identity” featuring testimonials and discussions with Vietnamese and Franco-Vietnamese filmmakers and producers (Tran Anh Hung, Pham Thien An, HKFilm).
