UCO Alumni at the 135th Infantry Regiment
The 135th Infantry Regiment is a French Army regiment created in 1813. As early as August 1914, the regiment left its garrison for the battlefields of eastern France and Belgium, collecting important honors in key battles such as Bièvre, Zonnebeke, Arras, Verdun and the Somme. In 1918, the regiment again distinguished itself by taking enemy positions in decisive battles, such as the crossing of the Sambre to Oise canal, actions for which it was repeatedly cited in the Army Order.
Disbanded in 1920, then briefly reconstituted in 1940, the 135ème RI was briefly reconstituted with FFI fighters at the end of August 1944 after the liberation of Angers (fighting at Saumur), under the command of Rear Admiral Jean Eynaud de Faÿ.
In tribute to the many UCO students who fell under its colors, the Université catholique de l'Ouest will receive a replica of the regiment's flag on November 15, 2024, in recognition of the collective commitment of our former students to the defense of France and our freedom.
Behind this collective tribute lie individual destinies. Discover the biographies of these former UCO students who served with the 135th Infantry Regiment, thanks to the work of two volunteers whom we warmly thank.
