At the age of 63, in January 2023, Boris Pistorius was promoted as Germany’s new Federal Minister of Defence. Mr. Pistorius is a former student of the Centre international d’études françaises (CIDEF) at the Université catholique de l’Ouest (UCO), where he had his French courses in the 1982-1983 school year. He had previously been State Minister for Interior and Sports in the state government of Lower Saxony since 2013, and served in the State Parliament of Lower Saxony from 2017, until his position as Federal Minister in 2023. Mr. Pistorius was also the mayor of Osnabrück (2006-2013) - the twin town with Angers. In spite of his brief period at La Catho, his impact on the university is significant, especially the Alumni community.
