Marion Coutanceau, HR Master (2021), HR Assistant at Vilmorin-Mikado

Marion graduated from the Université catholique de l'Ouest in 2021 with a Master's degree in Human Resources . She is now a Human Resources Assistant with the Vilmorin-Mikado Group.

Marion, could you introduce yourself in a few words?

My name is Marion Coutanceau, I'm 25 and I'm currently HR Assistant at Vilmorin-Mikado since November 2021. Vilmorin Mikado is a Franco-Japanese seed company located in La Ménitré, between Angers and Saumur.

At the start of my studies, I didn't think I'd be going into Human Resources, as I first obtained a DUT GEA option GMO (Gestion et Management des Organisations) at the IUT in Angers. It was only after a series of open doors and internships that I turned to HR. I went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management at Sacré-Cœur La Salle in Belle-Beille, and did my work-study placement with Adecco, a major player in the employment market.

I wanted to continue my studies by doing a master's degree to develop my analytical skills. So I joined the master's in human resources at the Université catholique de l'Ouest in 2019.

What is your mission at Vilmorin Mikado?

Since my arrival in 2021, I've been working in the HR department. Initially, I was more involved in monitoring recruitment and administrative tasks, but I soon took charge of the entire recruitment process, from defining the need with the manager to integrating the new employee. I conduct recruitment interviews, take care of onboarding and make sure that each new arrival feels welcome and integrated. We have around 450 employees on site and 1,000 worldwide.

What memories do you have of your Master's degree in Human Resources at UCO?

Despite the Covid situation, which somewhat disrupted student life, I really did have an excellent two years at UCO. I learned a lot, both at the Center Parcs company where I was doing my work-study placement and in the courses given at the university.

I forged strong bonds with my fellow students, and some of the lecturers made a particular impact on my course. I have very fond memories of this period and I have no hesitation in recommending this Master's program to students interested in HR.

What message do you have for students hesitating to embark on a career in HR?

I'd tell them not to doubt themselves and to go for it! Don't let appearances fool you into thinking you don't have what it takes to succeed. If you're passionate about human relations and enjoy helping others, then this is the job for you. Don't forget that HR is much more than paperwork! It's a profession that's rich in human resources, and one that lets you make a difference every day.

To conclude, what advice would you give to the UCO student and alumni community?

The most important thing is to do what you love! Don't let yourself be influenced by convention or other people's expectations. Find your path and give it your all. If you're passionate about what you do, you'll overcome any obstacles and have a rich and satisfying career.
